Pre-conference Film
Two episodes from the Bial Foundation’s excellent docuseries Beyond the Brain
Panel on Thursday 6th November 2025, 6:00 PM (GMT, UK)
Science, Spirituality, and Near-death Experiences
This year’s pre-conference film is a very special event which will explore episodes Episodes 1 and 8 of the 16-part docuseries created by the Bial Foundation.
Beyond the Brain is a 16-episode documentary series, with each episode lasting 30 minutes. It delves into scientific research on the human mind and its multiple dimensions.
Episodes 1 and 8 of the series – cover science and spirituality, and NDEs.
Through the eyes and research studies of 50 scientists and experts, this docuseries seeks to challenge taboos by exploring how science addresses phenomena that have long been considered marginal, such as telepathy, mediumship, near-death experiences, and claimed past-life memories.
This series provides an opportunity to learn about the human mind as the epicentre of the most intriguing and challenging discoveries of our time.
Episode One: Science and Spirituality
In this episode
Discover the promising results of Parapsychology that challenge our understanding of the brain and the world.
Since its beginnings, science has focused on materiality, which seems to have been exacerbated by the significant scientific and technological development throughout the 20th century.
In recent decades, there has been notable progress in parapsychological research, yielding promising findings that remain largely unknown to the public.
Science must rigorously and independently investigate phenomena like telepathy, precognition, psychokinesis, mediumship, near-death experiences, and others, aiming for comprehensive understanding.

Episode Eight: Near-Death Experiences
In this episode
People who have nearly died often describe seeing their own body from above, traveling through a tunnel, meeting beings of light and love, and watching a “movie” of their lives. When the heart stops beating and the brain is deprived of oxygen, can we still understand what is happening around us? Can we get a glimpse of our past or our future?
And how can such vivid and complex experiences occur when brain function is severely compromised?
Near-death experiences have been reported for centuries all over the world, transcending culture and religion. Given the widespread nature of this phenomenon, it seems necessary to continue and deepen scientific research to uncover the mechanisms, causes, and profound implications it entails.
